Jada Parrish

My speech is about the American tall tale, Paul Bunyan. I focused on how his extreme strength and size was important. I also explained the importance of friendship. Tall tales like this one were used to entertain and reflect the American culture. In this speech, I used physical representation and exaggeration.

John Leavitt

Preparing this speech helped me realize the importance of enunciation and hand gestures. Even though I focused on clear and simple words, the tone and delivery made up for the complexity of the speech. This shows that the delivery can have just as much importance as the content for getting your point across to your audience. Having this audience made me realize just how much I should focus on tone and gestures in all future speeches.

Mary Warf

Telling the story of Brer Rabbit made me realize that storytelling is not just about entertainment but also about sharing real meaning and experiences. Before working on this, I mostly thought of stories like this as simple folktales, but learning the background showed me that they were used to reflect survival and resilience in difficult circumstances. Actually performing the story helped me understand how tone and delivery shape the message just as much as the words themselves. It also showed me how storytelling can preserve culture and history in a way that feels personal and relatable. This connects to the idea that storytelling is a form of craft that carries identity and shared experiences across generations. Overall, this project helped me see storytelling as a powerful tool for expressing struggle, wisdom, and hope rather than just something meant for entertainment.
